Gram's Solo Poppy cake

Solo Brand Poppy Cake (old version)

Cream together:

1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup sugar

add: 1 can or jar poppy seed filling (usually solo brand it is bigger but we use baker brand as well but we like all we can get!)

cream in and add:

4 yolks, one at a time
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla

sift & add to above:
2 1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda

4 egg whites, whipped and fold under above cake mixture.

Place in butter tube pan
bake for 1 hour 15 minutes or until tested clean. check after 1 hour it seems done.

Cool. Then sprinkle on 10x sugar.
