Chocolate covered cherry cake

1 package [18.25 ounces] devilfood cake mix with pudding, 1 can of cherry pie filling[ 21 ounces, 2 large eggs, 1 teaspoon of pure almound extract. combine in a large mixing bowl and mix on low for 30 seconds, scrape down sides of bowl increase speed to medium and mix for 2 minutes. spray a 13 by 9 inch cake pan with non stick spray. pour batter in and smooth out with spatula. bake in a pre-heated 350* oven for 30 to 35 minutes. While the cake is cooking prepare the chocolate glaze: take 1 cup of sugar 1/3 cup of butter, 1/3 cup whole milk and put in a heavy sauce pan, after the cake comes out of the oven, put the sauce pan on medium heat until it comes to a boil, stirring constantly, boil for one minute, remove from heat and add 6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips, when the chips are melted and the glaze is smooth pour over the entire surface of the cake and cool at least another 20 minutes before cutting. glaze will be thin but will thicken as it cools. this cake tastes like the cherry cordialsyour mother loves.
