If you have been checking out my classes cooking blog, I am sure you have been
eagerly awaiting the addition of creative and delicious smoothie recipes!
Smoothies are a wonderful start (or addition) to any individual's daily diet. First of all, they are an extremely easy thing to prepare. You don't have to be a rocket scientist, chef, or even a food savy person to create a delightful smoothie. Secondly, smoothies are a very nutritious and well-balanced food selection. Most smoothies contain at least 2 servings of fruit and 1 serving of dairy! If you want to get crazy, some vegetables, like carrots or spinach can be added to create an additional flavor element.
Note: I often find that many of my friends, family members, and students forget what a serving size consists of and how much fruit you should be consuming each day. A serving size IS NOT all the fruit you can eat in one setting. It is also NOT the jumbo size apple or pear that you excitedly purchase from your local food market.
Most individuals should be consuming 1 1/2 - 2 cups of fruit per day. This means that if you have three 1/2 cup servings of fruit you will have fulfilled the daily recommended intake for the fruit category! Pretty easy, huh?
Now, back to my smoothie talk...smoothies require you to dirty a minimal amount of dishes (if you are one of my students, know one of my students, or hate cleaning dishes, you will appreciate that). Ultimately, you could create a smoothie and only dirty your blender
And last, but not least, smoothies can be very quickly prepared. They are a perfect start to the morning for a college student scrambling to get to class on time or a busy working parent! On second thought, a smoothie is the perfect start to anyone's morning!!
Have I sold you yet on making a smoothie? Well, if I haven't, just check out the smoothie recipes that my students have created and taste-tested. In the words of my favorite celebrity chef, "Yumo!" I dare you to check out our page and not go home and make yourself a smoothie!
