Local salad
The part I had for the project was to also make something for the meal so I decided to do a salad. Considering the low amount of available vegetables and fruits. In my salad I have
Romaine lettuce
Broccoli
Onions
All of these are from Riga Michigan. Where I bought these ingredients is from the Ypsilanti Michigan. … miles from Riga. This co/op gets many things from many places. Not all the produce is from the USA or Michigan for that matter, but on every produce item they tell you where the produce was grown. the store its self carries many things. Mostly everything is organic and made with care. They carry meat, dried goods, packaged goods and many more. The store is a place for people to get away from capitalism and join a more socialistic point of view. They care about people here and care about the products the people are getting. When the co/op was started in the 70’s it was ran out of a persons home. The Ypsilanti co/op is the only not for profit store in Ypsi, it is a community owned grocery store. I learned this from the manager Corinne. She also told me that when the co/op was started it wasn’t so much about organic it was a about real food not the processed stuff that was sold then. Now it has changed to get people FOOD that is organic and the best it can be. To improve the quality of life for people is the mission for the Ypsilanti food co/op and they do a really good job at supplying it. this shows that when people are unsatisfied with the things around them they will do what is best to get the things they want done. When people are pushed to the limits there will be a change.
