Baked Meatballs in tomato sauce

Ingredients:

750 gms lean beef mince
1/3 cup dried bread crumbs
1 egg lightly beaten
1 clove garlic finely chopped or minced
1 Teaspoon mixed herbs
Salt and pepper
1 Small onion finely chopped or grated

FOR THE SAUCE:

2x 410 cans diced tomatoes
5 sweet basil leaves torn into pieces
2 cloves garlic finely chopped or minced
1/2 teaspoon sugar
Advertisement:

salt and pepper
1 cup dry white wine
1 tablespoon corn flour mixed to paste in water

Method:

1 Mix the beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, herbs, onion, pepper and salt ensuring all ingredients are well mixed

2 Using a tablespoon, form firm round meatballs and cook in a frying pan until browned (about 15 minutes) then put them in a casserole dish

3 Place tomatoes, basil, garlic, sugar wine, pepper and salt in the frying pan and simmer for about 30 minutes until it has reduced by about 1/3

4 Thicken the sauce with corn flour mixture then add the sauce to the meatballs in the casserole dish

5 Cook in the oven with the lid on the casserole dish at 180C or gas mark 6 for half an hour then serve with mashed potatos and your choice of vegetabels

Comments:

Sauce turned out very nice, I would recommend adding some grated parmesan cheese to the meatball mixture before shaping them.
