So I was done with my qualifiation exams hooray! and i had decided to throw a
party, so i made a ton of mexican food. (really the party was an excuse for me
to make a ton of food). I had fun, i cooked until i could stand no more!
Gina and I made,
ceviche (one of my mex food staples because they dont sell it at restaurants)
chips ( i took premade tortillas and baked them! much better than bought tortilla chips)
guacamole (for the chips)
pico de gallo
pozole
mole chicken
pipian chicken
carnitas
bistec (well steak strips)
tortillas
cheese cake cajeta
Nadya made
pastel de tres leches
margaritas!!!! with jamaica and tamarind! yum yum
The Mishaps!!
Gina found meely worms in the maseca!!! i hate to say it, but had it been me, all my party guests would be eating meely worms, I would have NEVER noticed. I had no idea that that was something to watch out for.
When we opened the mole jar, the glass broke and fell inside. We managed to salvage the sauce because it comes in solid form, but it was scary for a moment there thinking, great my guests are gonna be eating meely worms and glass!!
The genius
I think the best part of the night was that we put everything out in bits and pieces so that the guests had a little of everything. Instead of going to the table buffet style and choising what they wanted and leaving everything else, we would heat something up put it on the serving table, everyone would flock and when they were done, we'd put something else out there.
Many of our guests are from asia and europe and had never heard of or seen guacamole before. But since it was the first thing out, they tried it! some seem to really like it without even really know hwat they were eating! Next to come out was the ceviche which no one had heard of and people were chowin down.
And the jamaica margaritas were incredible. These were quaffed! I dont know Nadya's exact recipe but it invovled hisbuiscus tea (cold) sugar, tequila and triple sec and some lime.
hope this sets off for a good semester of good cooking
