Cin's Spice Cookies

1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated (white) sugar
1 1/2 sticks butter or margarine, room temp
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg (or cloves)
1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger

additional granulated sugar


Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Combine flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger; set aside. In a separate bowl cream together, butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in molassess, egg and vanilla. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Pinch off pieces of dough (lightly dust hands with flour if necessary) and roll into balls, roll each ball in additional sugar and place onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until edges are lightly browned and center is firm.
