What bugs me
is that I know better than this. It's hard to say what exactly possessed
me to micro-heat marinara sauce in a white plastic bowl. Did I think this bowl
would somehow be immune to the staining properties of the evil, but delicious,
sauce? Regardless of what momentary insanity I was experiencing, I now have a
lovely half white, half orange bowl to contend with. I tried filling it with
soapy bleach water - but all that yielded was a sanitized orange/white bowl. A
coworker suggested letting dishwashing detergent sit in it overnight. I've
peeked at it, and it doesn't seem to have done a lick of good.
So... what remedies exist for this - short of purchasing a new one? It's not
an expensive bowl mind you, but it's just not the same with the Tang-looking
interior. You are here: Carla's Kitchen > General
tomato sauce stained plastic bowl

Depending on how porous the bowl is you could try a mixture of baking soda and peroxide to rub it. However, if it's too porous, that won't work. I've ruined my own fair share of plastic tupperware type bowls that way. You're not alone! That's why I only buy cheapie plastic bowls now, so they are a little more disposable.

Hi Carla,
I don't think any thing is going to get the stain out. Here's
something I do and it works for me. Try spraying some
Pam in the bowl first and then add your sauce. Also a
good idea to spray on spoons for sticky foods like honey.
Hope this helps!
