Super simple buttercream icing

This icing is a wonderful edition to any cake.

Ingredients

1 stick unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 tsp pure vanilla
1 tsp meringue powder (optional)
2 tbsps milk
4 cups (1 lb) of powdered sugar

Add butter and vegetable shortening to mixer.Beat on medium speed.While mixing, add in vanilla.Add milk.Then add meringue powder.Continue beating.Slowly add in powdered sugar,one cup at a time until all has been mixed in.Final result should be a creamy,somewhat stiff icing.If icing is too stiff add in another tbsp of milk to soften it up.If it is not stiff enough,add in another 1/4-1/2 cup of powdered sugar.Can be used immediately or can be refridgerated for future use.Use within 3 days of making.
