Okay so I know this is my second post of the day but as a very
antsy teacher on her lunch break with only one day of school left what can ya
do? Seriously though, I am in need of some advice. I am having a little problem
with my friends of the feathered variety. Don't get me wrong..........I love
birds. Adore them even. I always keep my feeders filled and even invested in a
very beautiful (and also expensive) cast iron bird bath. The problem
is...........well, it's Beefcake. Now for any of you avid Southpark fans I am
sure you are snickering right about now. However Cartman does not hang out at my
bird feeder (and if he does trust me you'll be the first to know). No....
Beefcake is the affectionate name I have given a very bald and very, well I
guess there is no other way to say this....obese, cardinal. He showed up about a
month ago and started gorging himself on the free chow I provide daily off the
railing of my deck. This however does not pose a problem. What does cause a
problem is that Beefcake is in love with my grill. That's right folks....this
portly little fella has developed a rather odd and yet disturbing fondness for
my most prized cooking accessory. On several occassions I have seen him sitting
on top of the grill when its not in use rubbing his head on it. At first I
thought, oh he must just have an itch. But after several days of this behavior I
am starting to think okay maybe there is more to this than meets the eye. He has
also been running off the chikadees and the titmouse that share his food supply
whenever they get a little too close to the grill. I am deathly afraid that one
day he will try to perch on it while it is still hot so hence my dilema.Anybody
got any ideas? I just cringe at the thought of putting it away after I use it
just to drag it out again. Plus a grill is not exactly a light thing. If anyone
else has suffered from this condition please advise me in the right direction.
