(I am trying to preserve my mother's (Dorothy) classic recipes. This one is more
recent.
First Brown & Drain
1 lb. ground beef
1 onion
1 garlic
Transfer to a large stock pot and
Add:
1 can Beef Broth
5-6 cans of water
1/2 large can tomato puree
1/2 cup barley
2 celery stocks & 2 carrots cut up
Cabbage leaves (washed and torn up)
1/2 tsp. basil
1 Bay leaf
Cook on low - 1 hour
then; ADD
9 to 16 oz. bag frozen vegetables
1/4 cup small noodles (alphabets or stars)
